Measurement

  • Engagement and brand reporting
  • Rx-adjacent measurement via partners (vendor claim, US)

Healthcare constraints

Reach builds on member logins and consent, not registries. Even so: legal and compliance review required, per campaign and market, including the German HWG frame for professional-audience communication.

Limitations

  • Booking via insertion orders, little programmatic flexibility.
  • Verify reach depth per specialty in DACH up front.
  • Rx measurement stays a US construct, unavailable here.

A fit when

  • DACH campaigns to professional audiences with verifiable clinical context.
  • Launch communication that needs CME and clinical-news environments.

Not a fit when

  • You expect programmatic control or self-serve.
  • Prescription-adjacent impact measurement is the requirement; it does not exist here.

The assessment

Medscape belongs to the WebMD group and is the highest-reach HCP portal: clinical news, CME education, reference content, with editions in several languages including German. For DACH this is the rare case of a platform with real, login-based professional reach. Our view: the first candidate on any DACH HCP plan, with clear limits in steering and measurement.

Audience model and targeting

Identity comes from registration: members verify as healthcare professionals, and specialty and country sit in the profile. Targeting runs, per the vendor, on specialty, market and environment. Data sources are the portal's profile and usage data, no external registries.

Activation and measurement

Buying is managed via insertion orders, partly with programmatic elements through the in-house sales organisation. Reporting covers engagement and brand metrics; prescription-adjacent measurement exists only in the US frame, as a vendor claim. For DACH that means building your own conversion chain from portal click to CRM, otherwise platform reporting is all you get.

Compliance and review

Legal and compliance review required before any booking. Professional-audience communication runs inside the HWG frame in Germany, and the separation from the WebMD sibling's DTC environments must be clean in the setup. Vendor conformity statements remain vendor claims.

Common implementation mistakes

  • Professional gate and landing-page tracking not aligned.
  • CME environments confused with product advertising, which breaks the rules.
  • DACH reach per specialty not validated up front.
