AreaSignal · A Datascale data product
Methodology and privacy: area signals with stated limits
AreaSignal works with aggregated area data, explainable scores and firm exclusion rules. This page describes principles, not ready-made legal clearances.
Data sources by category
- public and official structural and geo data
- statistical and research-based area data
- licensed aggregated sources where usage rights are settled
- modeled area signals and crosswalk tables between geography levels
Concrete source documentation belongs to the specific geo segment and can be provided for a pilot, targeting setup or data protection review, as far as licence and partner rules allow.
Scoring principles
- Scores are relative to the national baseline.
- Index 100 equals the national average.
- Percentiles and rank order geographies within one country.
- Confidence accounts for source, recency, coverage, the quality of the area mapping, the imputation of missing values and stability over time.
- Low confidence or areas with a thin data base get flagged, merged or suppressed.
Privacy rules
AreaSignal is built without personal identifiers. The product uses no MAIDs, cookies, hashed emails, household IDs, device graphs or individual movement profiles, and future product paths keep that line. Exports contain geographies, scores, indices, confidence values and metadata.
Areas with a thin data base and risky attribute combinations are not simply passed through. Depending on the case they get flagged, merged or excluded.
Usage rules
Permitted use
- Regional campaign planning and budget allocation
- Geo segments for media planning and campaigns
- Direct data delivery to agencies, brands and platform partners
- Integration conversations based on documented area data
Excluded
- Person-level targeting of any kind
- Health-condition inference
- Targeting children and minors
- Political persuasion
- Exploiting financial distress
- Sensitive places
- Individual-level location tracking
- Small audience groups
- Re-identification attempts
- Discriminatory pricing or offer steering based on area attributes
These rules are product boundaries, not legal advice. The legal assessment of the specific campaign use stays with the buyer.
Exclusions in detail
- Health-condition inference. Area or context data must not be used to infer conditions or health profiles, not even approximately.
- Targeting children and minors. Segments must not be tailored to minors or used to target them.
- Political persuasion. No use for election advertising, political microtargeting or opinion manipulation.
- Exploiting financial distress. No steering towards areas or groups with the aim of exploiting financial vulnerability (e.g. high-interest credit).
- Sensitive places. No segments built on environments such as clinics, counselling centres, places of worship or protests where protected attributes would follow.
- Individual-level location tracking. No processing of movement paths of individual persons or devices; the unit stays the area.
- Small audience groups. Segments below the aggregation thresholds are not delivered; groups that are too small are effectively re-identifying.
- Re-identification attempts. Any attempt to derive individuals, devices or households from aggregated data is excluded contractually and technically.
Limitations
- AreaSignal describes area potential, not individual likelihood.
- Scores are comparable within one country; cross-country comparisons need calibration.
- Platform acceptance, policy clearance and marketplace listing are not part of the current product.
- Sources can differ per country in recency, granularity and licensing.
