Server-Side & Tagging

stape.io: Managed Server-Side GTM in the EU Region

Managed hosting for server-side GTM in the EU region. Fast go-live without your own GCP project, with a DPA and a clear migration path if you later move to your own infrastructure.

  • EU region with a DPA and data-processing agreement
  • sGTM container live in days, not weeks
  • Power-ups for custom loaders, GEO headers, and consent logic
  • Migration path to your own GCP or Hetzner infrastructure

stape.io is our default entry point into server-side tagging. Managed hosting, EU region, live in days. No GCP project of your own, no DevOps burden.

What is stape.io?

stape.io hosts your server-side GTM container as a managed service. Instead of standing up your own tagging server in Google Cloud Run or on Hetzner, the container runs at stape, with a first-party subdomain, SSL, and monitoring. The container stays standard GTM. Meaning: no lock-in, and a later migration is always on the table.

When stape.io fits, and when it doesn't

A fit when:

  • you need sGTM in production fast, without your own GCP setup
  • EU hosting with a DPA is mandatory
  • your team lacks the DevOps capacity to run a container
  • request volume is predictable and fits the plan tiers

Less so when:

  • volume is high enough that a dedicated GCP instance is cheaper
  • strict sovereignty requirements call for your own container
  • your stack already lives entirely in GCP

For roughly 95 percent of setups we start with stape and keep the migration path open. When volume or sovereignty demand it, we move to your own infrastructure.

What Datascale builds with stape.io

We deliver the blueprint and the quality-assured implementation:

  • Measurement Blueprint as the binding foundation
  • container setup including the first-party subdomain
  • Consent Mode v2 mapping across web and server containers
  • PII-stripping rules before every send
  • routing to GA4, Google Ads, Meta CAPI, and BigQuery
  • monitoring, alerts, rollback, and full handover documentation

The full picture of the server-side setup lives in Measurement & Privacy Engineering. The Measurement Health Check assesses your current tracking first.

  • Q01
    What is stape.io?

stape.io hosts your server-side GTM container as a managed service. Instead of running your own tagging server in Google Cloud Run or on Hetzner, the container runs at stape in a region you choose, with a first-party subdomain, SSL, and monitoring included.

  • Q02
    Is stape.io GDPR-compliant?

stape offers an EU region and a data-processing agreement. That's the foundation, but it doesn't replace a clean configuration. GDPR compliance comes from consent mapping, PII filters, and a documented legal basis, not from the hosting alone.

  • Q03
Do I have to use stape.io for server-side GTM?

No. Alternatives are Google Cloud Run, App Engine, or your own server on Hetzner or OVH. stape is the fastest clean path for most setups. For high volume or strict sovereignty requirements we move to your own infrastructure.

  • Q04
    Is there vendor lock-in?

No. The container stays standard GTM. A migration to Google Cloud Run or your own server is possible at any time, and the tagging setup carries over.

  • Q05
    What does stape.io cost?

Plans start in the low double digits per month and scale with request volume. The setup runs through our Audit Sprint and the following Build Sprint. We scope the exact effort in the audit.
